چکیده

The Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems at the Australian National University is working on the development of low cost durable mirrors for large paraboloidal dish concentrators and for smaller trough concentrators photovoltaic systems. Both concepts utilize a robust Glass on Metal Laminate (GOML) technology for the mirror surface. The dish mirror panels use the GOML material in a sandwich construction with a foam core and a back sheet of steel. This provides a cost effective structurally strong composite panel. For the troughs the smaller focal length and one dimensional curvature, lead to a design that holds the GOML mirrors in place with a rib system. Both concepts have demonstrated good optical performance and durability under accelerated lifetime testing.

A NEW 500 m2 PARABOLOIDAL DISH SOLAR CONCENTRATOR

The Australian National University (ANU) has worked for many years on paraboloidal dish solar concentrators and demonstrated a 400m2 system in 1994. The commercialization of this technology has involved a re-design of the Big Dish concept for mass production. The new design is a 494 m2 concentrator with 13.4 m focal length and altitude-azimuth tracking. It uses 380 identical spherical 1.17m × 1...

Thermodynamic and economic comparison of photovoltaic electricity generation with and without self-cleaning photovoltaic panels

In this study, thermodynamic and economic analysis of a photovoltaic electricity generation system (PVEGS) with and without self-cleaning panels is reported. In the first part, thermodynamic analyses are used to characterize the performance of the system. In the second part, the economic comparison of photovoltaic electricity generation with and without self-cleaning panels is carried out for a...

Comparison of Solar Concentrators

-Even though most variations of solar concentrators have been studied or built at some time or other, an important class of concentrators has been overlooked until very recently. These novel concentrators have been called ideal because of their optical properties, and an example, the compound parabolic concentrator, is being tested at Argonne National Laboratory. Ideal concentrators differ radi...
